New Nimbuzz 2.0.1 for Android: Invisible status, less battery consumption, and more!

Nimbuzz Android 2.0.1 Contacts

Nimbuzz 2.0.1 for Android has landed!! You can get it now from the Android Market or directly from Nimbuzz.

The new Nimbuzz version packs brand new features and improvements for all you Android fans out there.

Here is a short overview:

  • Invisible status for IM accounts
  • Updated contact list view
  • Sort contacts by status
  • 20% to 40% less battery consumption while running in the background

Now, Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant, Epic 4G, Captivate, and Fascinate), Nexus One, Droid 2, HTC Aria, Evo 4G, Droid X, Incredible and any Android owner can talk and chat with all their friends for free with out any interruptions!

Before we check all the new features in detail, we want to thank all our users who have been giving us their feedback and their support so we can improve Nimbuzz as fast as possible. Thank you! :)

Now check details after the jump!

With the new version you can choose to set your status to invisible for each IM account. For example, you can choose if you want to be invisible for your MSN friends and available for everyone else. Makes it easy to monitor activity while appearing offline :). This new feature is available trough the updated “My profile” page and to get there you need to tap on your name at the top of the contact list.

We also updated the contact list view. Based on your feedback you can now see the status of your contacts on the right side and the community they belong to on the upper left corner of their profile image.

Next up is the ability to sort your contacts by status. If you choose this option you will see the contacts that are available for chat, followed the ones that are busy and after that the ones that have set their status on away. Think of it as sorting by real-time availability ;)

You guys asked us to improve the battery consumption for the Nimbuzz Android client and we listened. With the new 2.0.1  you will notice improvements of 20% to 40% less battery consumed.  The app consumes less battery while running in the background on a 3G connection and the difference will be most noticed if you have a large contact list. The more contacts you have the bigger the difference :).

Improving the battery consumption is an ongoing task for us and rest assured we are working hard to make it even better!

Thanks to all you who help us your feedback we crushed some pesky little bugs :D!  So thanks again.

As always, please feel free to drop me any comment, feedback or question you have in the section below!

  3. Great fix on the notification force closure, nice subtle interface upgrade, however it feels so much slower than the previous version; Signing into accounts is slow, responses to touch is slow, overall performance 2 notches slower than before.

  12. @xtsuname Thanks for letting us know about this. I’m sorry you are experiencing this audio issue. Can you please let me know if you are using Nimbuzz on 3G or Wifi? 13. @Nekeshash Yes there is a Nimbuzz version for the E71! You can download the 2.4 Nimbuzz version from our blog or directly from the Ovi Store. Please let me know if you need any additional help.

    Dan September 27th, 2010
  14. @Dan – this new version has better conectivity than previous. Sometimes skype has some seconds of delay, but is working better especially over wifi.

When I am using Nimbuzz over 3G or over Wifi, i dont know why 2 or 3 hours later skype appears disconnected so I have to reboot nimbuzz.

Otherwise, less battery consumption while running in the background is real, nice.

Thanks for this update. Nimbuzz is getting better.

  15. Hi Dan,

Thnx for replying. I am currently using Nimbuzz 2.4 and my biggest prob with that version is the updating of my contacts. When I first started using Nimbuzz I had a little over 250 contacts listed (mostly fb friends). Since then I have added more friends to my list but the number is still the same, my contact list is not updated automatically, and there are friends on my list whose names and pictures do not show up. When i get a msg i have to ask “who is this?” because in place of there names all i see is a bunch of numbers. Is there a way to solve this problem?

    Nekeshash September 28th, 2010
  16. @All – Good news everyone! we have a new test version for those who are having mic/audio problems. Please send me an email to torres at nimbuzz dot com as soon as possible if you want to try it out and give us some feedback. :)

  17. Hi Dan,

  19. @Carl – great to hear! Thanks for your comment!

    Dan October 1st, 2010
  20. @Nekeshash – Thanks for getting back to me.

    1) Nimbuzz has a limit of the amount of FB friends that show up in your contact list. ( we are working on increasing that number as fast as possible)
    2) Are these friends who don’t have names and pics “online’ or offline, away?

Let me know, and I will report this ASAP

    Dan October 1st, 2010
  21. @Gabriel thanks for your feedback – Very helpful for us and very glad is working out for you!

    Dan October 22nd, 2010

    location: jakarta, Indonesia.

this is a constant issue on my samsung galaxy s. been using nimbuzz for long time on my nokia E71 (its works fine on E71).

for android, I found nimbuzz is the most stable IM app compared to meebo/ebuddy (as they’re constantly disconnecting).

the only problem is my YM friends isnt showing. showing only1 (the last friend who add my YM id).

big thx n appreciate if u can help dan….

    Afin October 23rd, 2010
  34. Very nice app for my Htc Wildfire but there not seems to be a real time update for who’s online.

That would be nice and a sound when someone new is online.

Anyway I like it very mutch, thanks for this great app!!

    Bicklo October 23rd, 2010
  35. @dan,

I just downloaded nimbuzz off the android market. I have the Epic 4 g and when I try to call landlines using my skype account credits I can hear the people speak but they can’t hear me. On my end even when they pick up it keeps makikng the ringing noise. When this happened I uninstalled the program and got it off your site and the problem continues.

I have unlimited data I live in utah and am trying to call brasil.

Thanks and waiting for a reply.

    brock October 25th, 2010
  36. I tried using NimbuzzOut, the overall quality is good. Something that would need an improvement:
    – It looks like Android OS is unaware that NimbuzzOut is one of the ways a call can be implemented.
    – Looking up contacts is not so easy. T9 for the NimbuzzOut contact search would be very nice (like in Dialer One Android app).

    Alex October 26th, 2010
  37. @dan

Dan I am the brock from the above post. I have the samsung epic 4g however after having your app on my phone all media programs (pandora, youtube, ect) stopped working. I would get about 1 minute of music/video and then it would skip as though it were a cd. I uninstalled the program and they all work. I want your app but it is keping other apps from working.

Thanks and waiting for a reply

  46. I just downloaded and set up Nimbuzz and so I have $0 in my account and I want to add money but it tells me I have reached my maximum, that was on the computer. Then I tried on the phone and it said the same. Then tried again on the phone and now the Buy Credit button won’t even go from grey to black (clickable). I got Nimbuzz for a call I wanted to make tonight and already it won’t let me anything more than a test call from the Mac computer version. Is there a way to test on the phone version too? And how can I use it if I can’t buy any credit?

Please Help, it appears to be a fantastic application if it will just let me pay to get started using it.

    Thank you!

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

  48. If I had found my way back to this message board, (and should have tried harder) sooner I would have told you that the problem went away just a few hours later after midnight. I guess somehow I must have done something that sent an alert that I tried too many times in too short a period of time although I didn’t think I had tried more than once that first time and already there was that message.

Anyway, all has been Great ever since and I Love the app and the service! Thank You!!

    Ed February 5th, 2011
  49. @Ed Thank you for letting us know. Happy to hear that the “issue” was fixed and that you are enjoying the service. Please let us know if we can help you with anything else. Thanks again!
