  6. Hi Dan, I am using the latest version just updated from the market yesterday – it is 2.0.0 Build 7981.8052. It does NOT work vitually at all when trying to talk over SKYPE. I would accept a bit unstable SKYPE as per login but nobody could ever hear me!!! And talking is I believe the primary use for SKYPE. I hope you guys fix it ASAP as Galaxy S is becoming phenomenon. At least here in Europe I see people swithching from iPhones a lot. Including me.

  10. Hello Dan. The previous version was working good over 3g, now with 2.0 when I make a skype call over 3G I dont hear anything and the other side cant hear me.
    Like I said, the previous version was working good, nimbuzz dont display message or error. I have a Nexus One 2.2 froyo.

    I hope you guys fix it. Nimbuzz was perfect for me, until this issue. If you need more information about just let me know.

  13. @Dan – Hello, I am in Guatemala, Central America. My network provider is “Claro”. When I call a Nimbuzz user, same issue, only in 3G. I was testing a Sony Xperia X10, guess what?, same issues. Skype Calls only work with Wifi connection. My provider does not have any restriction with Voip calls over 3G.

    I hope you guys fix it. Now I’m using other solution, but let me tell you, Nimbuzz its better. If you need more information about just let me know.

    As I’m not an Skype user I just spent $10 in Netbuzz’s credits to try it and find that mhe mic in my Samsung Galaxy S is not working.
    I’m in Spain and my carrier is Vodafone. Using build 7981.8052

    While you fix it, where can I download Nimbuzz 1.4.1 from?

  21. I can also confirm that Nimbuzz 2.0 is not compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S devices.

    While it’s an amazing IM for mobile devices, the current version fails to use the microphone built in on the Galaxy S, rendering Nimbuzz useless for voicecalls.

    Yes, the only problem I am experiencing is that my microphone is not working with Nimbuzz at all. I can still connect my voicecalls with others and hear them just fine, both on 3G, Turbo 3G (HSDPA) and Wi-fi.

    Can you please let me know if the problems are Skype specific or also happen with Nimbuzz calls:
    I haven’t tried Nimbuzz calls, the microphone won’t work when calling any supported IM however (MSN, skype).

  28. Just thought I should also share my issue with nimbuzz on my galaxy s.

    -I have not tried 3g because i do not have a data plan.

    -Call quality over skype is patchy and non functional. In voip calls i can hear my contact perfectly but he/she can’t hear me at all. ( I use a custom voip service called voxalot)

    -Instant messaging over all services works perfectly.

    Overall nimbuzz is a fantastic program and I have used it extensively in the past on various nokia phones and cant wait till it works 100% on my galaxy s :D

    I have Galaxy S and I use Nimbuzz to make SIP calls. Before with firmware version JF5 I can hear perfect what other person says but my mic was muted. Now I changed firmware to custom firmaware JM5+lag fix and now my voice goes clearly trough. One irritating is just that speaker (sounds like rear speaker..?) is extreme laud so it might cause echo maybe mic is too loud too?. I have set iLBC to audio codec.

  41. Hi, I can’t send audio properly on gtalk and skype calls from Nimbuzz. Receiving audio works great. The sent audio is just scratchy noise sent in bursts. It is not a bandwidth problem, I have tried with several wifi networks.

  46. Using Galaxy S I9000. Incoming voice volume is extremely high even on lowest volume level (like using loudspeaker). Mic does not work at all. Tried using Galaxy headphone too but faced same problem.

    tested on HSDPA, GPRS from Orange and WIFI
    - Country: Switzerland
    - does the same happen on WiFi?: Yes happens too.
    - what is the recurrence rate? (ex: out of 10 calls how many have audio issues?): never worked so far (10 of 10)
    - Does it happen if you call a contact from other IM community (besides Skype)? no other IM used, just NibuzzOut
    - OS version: Android 2.1-update1 (base JF3)

    Like Mario I bought $10 Nimbuzz credit for using VoIP but can not use the service now.

  49. I have indeed heard of The Galaxy S devices having bad audio drivers with original firmware.

    Unfortunately, there’s no update in Sweden as of now, it would seem the only released updates are with major foreign carriers for the moment, especially within the UK.

    Sorry, flashing with Odin and unofficial firmwares comes with great risks – even if you do it exactly as you are supposed to, it can still go wrong and your phone will be “bricked”, meaning it will never work again.

    Also, by flashing with Odin you are breaking the Terms of Service, if anything happens to your phone you are no longer allowed to turn it in for warranty errands.

    Sadly, I once bricked a Samsung SGH-F480 as the firmware on it was over one year old and nothing new was released officially for swedes :P

    The first link provided solved all my problems straight away

    I must however mention, i did at last update my phone to the latest official released version from Samsung, still, calling through MSN (which is my primary need) works like a charm.

    As I really apreciate your response and fast work however, I also tried the second version linked which turned out to work just as well (for some reason, in this version I had to pick a provider, I chose nimbuzz.com)

    I’ll be keeping this, sadly, I don’t know if you’re on to something over at the Nimbuzz HQ or if it was my firmware update on the phone that took care of things (as others before me stated). However, when I first tried the english version of JM1 earlier today and downloaded Nimbuzz from the market, I was unable to make any calls at all to MSN, the receiving end would not even see any incomming call, nor would I see theirs.

    I’m now on the latest Swedish version of the same update though, and with these two apk’s everythings fine.

    — Version A:
    Works great over 3G and Wifi. I had good quality calls and better Skype connectivity than 1.4.1. The issues in Nimbuzz: v2.0.0 build 7981.8052 that I reported disappeared. So I’m using this version since yesterday.

    — Version B:
    Works over Wifi but It does not work over 3G. Same issues like Nimbuzz: v2.0.0 build 7981.8052 version that I reported. I cant hear anything when I’m calling and the mic does not work. But I realized better connectivity than 1.4.1.

    I have a suggestion: nimbuzz must use proximity sensor for turn off the screen while we are in a call.

    I do need to echo Gabriel’s suggestion about the proximity sensor or an option allowing the screen to turn off after a set time. This would help battery life I’m sure.

  67. @Dan There is also something what you should improve. Right now you are forced to use international call prefixes. So almoust every time Nimbuzz adds it wrong.

    I think people saves their contact whitout prefixes like 012-1234567 (Noticed that some operator number start with zero) So the problem is that if you have set prefix to for example United State of America +1 will Nimbuzz add it to +10121234567. So as we see there should not been zero after prefix number.

    So my suggestion is that you make option that user can disable prefixes.

  68. @Dan Thank you for involving all of us in the testing of the Nimbuzz developments.

    I tested on my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 first with the original firmware JF3 the versions:

    1.4.1, 2.0 original (as in Market) and your prototypes #1, #2:
    All version had the same problem – extremely loud incoming voice and my voice does not go through (microphone is not working).

    Then I updated my device on firmware JM1 as suggested by Lukas. This solved the problem with outgoing voice on version 2.0 original and prototype #1, #2, #3 equally well. Could not find differences in quality in between the four versions, just found some layout changes.

    Now I am using #3 and therefore I would like to report that the voice in and out is ok and natural but there is a very loud background noise primarily on the receiving side (Skype Echo as well as NimbuzzOut).

    In all tested versions I still recognized the extremely loud incoming voice level. There is no difference from #3 to all the others.

  76. @Dan I got it done !!!! I had to unistall everythingb regarding NIMBUZZ in my phone first. After complete “clean up” this trial had installed itself. :-) As per the soft – still a bit unstable but microphone working while calling SKYPE :-) )) A litte issue with the prefix numbers as mentioned here before. But, you guys are definitely in the right direction. Thanx a lot for everything.

  78. @Dan – I have been testing Version # 3 on a Sony Xperia X10, SkypeOut and NimbuzzOut is working just fine. The previous official versions (1.4.1 and 2.0) had echoes problems with this phone.
    Just another thing, when I am connected for 2 or 3 hours, skype is disconnect for any reason but nimbuzz keeps connected so I have to restart nimbuzz and skype reconnect. That is very annoying

    I hope next version use proximity sensor during calls.

  79. Hi Dan, could you please send me the test version #3. I have the problems mentioned here in the thread:
    – high and non-configurable level of volume in the phone loudspeaker (instead of earpiece which is not used by NB for the calls at all)
    – significant echo on the other side of the connection.

    All calls were through NimbuzzOut and WiFi. I have a Samsung Galaxy S from T-Mobile.nl.

    Here is the feedback on the version I received from you for Samsung Galaxy S:
    – NimbuzzOut calls to landline and mobile phones were going normally and with the quality that I would rate as acceptable on both sides of the connection – based on the criterion that both sides could understand the other side without making efforts and the voices were easily recognizable. At the same time, in all tests those whom I spoke with (people on the other side of the connection – phones) reported noticeable (or sometimes significant) echo with the delay of 1-2 seconds in average.
    – In all tests with NimbuzzOut, the earpiece was used by Nimbuzz on my Galaxy (positive change!). At the same time, in-line volume was at its maximum value and I was not able to reduce it through the built-in In-Line Volume Control of the phone.
    – Tests with SkypeOut repeated the above results while sound quality of the calls was just a bit lower (which is actually understandable due to the presence of the Nimbuzz-Skype gateway in the connection). BTW Skype connections were stable in my tests – no breaks.

    All tests were performed through a Wi-Fi connection cause my 3G service from T-Mobile should commence in a few days.

    Hope this feedback will help your R&D in fine-tuning the voice call quality, which I believe is crucial for the success of Nimbuzz business model, especially in the anticipation of Gmail Voice coming to the Mobile Gmail on Android. Although, I think Nimbuzz has several other differentiators but imho the voice call quality and the ability to intermediate with Skype, etc. will be vital in the future.

    I am keen to test new Nimbuzz versions for Android, indeed.

  99. @Dan – My biggest issue is the stability of the SKYPE. And of course the call quality has to improve since it is far from the quality of original SKYPE I used on an iPhone before. But I have not experienced the loudness issue on the trial I have right now.

    I tried Nimbuzz 1.4.1 on my samsung galaxy S, I tried to call by skype to a phone in a foreign country, I still have the same problem: I can hear ( and the sound is very loud… I don’t know why, it’s like I open the speaker), and they cannot hear me…
    I feel awkward now with the 11€ I pay for SKYPE.

    Even though, I can call with my laptop, but it’s not as convenient as a handphone.

    Can you please help me?

  103. @Kris Thanks for letting us know. This is a known issue and we are working on it. Make sure you update the Nimbuzz version for Android to (Nimbuzz 2.0). We already have a fix for some of your problems and we will have an update pretty soon. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.

    Now, that I use Skype.2.0, it’s aven worse I can’t even call:
    It’s written: “you’ve been disconnected, we’ll make our possible to fix the problem…”.

    I guess, it will take long again to be able to speak through Skype…
    When do you think the new Android will upload the new version which I hope I can use SKYPE without problem?

  118. Hi Dan, I have tried to do some SKYPE calls and now I have opposite problems. I cannot sometimes hear the other side as they hear me ok. Well really “OK” because the delay issue is still there. Even when I hear the other side, it is far from perfect. I actually pulled out my old iPhone 3GS and tried the SKYPE app thru it and the difference is stunning. The original iPhone app is flawless.

    -If you use 3g, do you face the same audio problem when calling using WiFi? Only Wi-Fi
    -the problems are Skype specific or also happen with Nimbuzz calls?
    Tested only Skype calls. When I place a call one out of two problems takes place: 1 – I can clearly hear the other person on the phone, but he can’t hear me. 2 – I can’t hear the other person’s voice and he can’t hear me. In both cases, if i try to place a new call Nimbuzz freezes and get closed by Android.
    Android version: 2.1 update 1
    Nimbuzz version: 2.0.1

    We are aware of VoIP blocking in UAE, which is an initiative from the government together with the Telecommunications Authorities.
    Unfortunately due to these reasons we cannot guarantee that VoIP calling will work for you. We recommend you to try to call using other network to test if it helps.
