iPhone, Android, and BB all the same?

It seems that smartphone users share a similar taste when it comes to which applications are being used.

Thanks to our friends from Mplayit we can show this great chart of some of the most popular apps on iPhone, Android and Blackberry.

Here are some highlights from the chart above:

  • Evernote is popular on all three platforms.
  • Yelp and Loopt appear in two places under the most popular Location Services
  • Pandora as always the favorite among music fans
  • Facebook and Nimbuzz leading the social media category.

Here is a bigger version of the chart.

What is this mean in terms of comparing these three platforms?

The iTunes app store has 5 times more applications the Android Market, and over 20 times more than the Blackberry Appworld. However, reading this chart we can see that those numbers don’t really matter. People are downloading pretty much the same apps in all three platforms.

In this case, we might be able to apply that old saying that “it is all about quality, not quantity” :)

It doesn’t matter how many apps there are, we will always want the ones that do the best job… right?
