Today is about free text messaging – with Nimbuzz!

Doesn’t matter whether you are on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon on any other carrier. As long as you have Nimbuzz installed on your internet enabled mobile phone, and have a data plan subscription from your provider, you are ready to roll! Make sure yo uinvite all you friends to Nimbuzz.

Of course, Nimbuzz doesn’t just offer free text messaging. With it comes free calling, photo and music messaging, file sharing, location sharing, and instant messaging with all your friends on Facebook, Skype, Yahoo, AIM, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Google Talk, MySpace, and more.

People talk about the death of text messages or SMS, but according to the latest CTIA survey the volume of text messages (SMS) sent in the US in the first half of 2009 was double the number of last year at the same time!  Total text messages sent in first the half of 2009 were 740 billion. That equals to 4.1 billion text messages sent per day, and with 276 million wireless users in the US, that makes it 15 text messages per user per day!

Time to explain how Nimbuzz offers free text messaging:

Since Nimbuzz routes its services over the internet, there is no charge, except for the data cost from the operator, which is why we recommend an unlimited data plan. All iPhone users already have one of those by default, which makes Nimbuzz especially interesting for you “iPhoners” out there.

For all Wifi users, of course, everything is free on your home or publicly available free Wifi.

For everyone else, check with your provider about an unlimited data plan. For example, AT&T offers Unlimited Data for $15 a month. T-Mobile will only charge you $20. That’s a great entry price if it drops your other costs to zero :D

  1. So where do i enter the phone number to send a message? More importantly, where do i find the number that i need to give out to receive these messages? /sarcasm

  5. …so you can’t use Nimbuzz to text to someone’s cell phone?

what you really get is IM via cell…not sms text via Nimbuzz on cell…

  6. @strike

In order to send free text- music, and video messages to another mobile for free, both mobile phones need to have Nimbuzz installed and have an unlimited data plan (preferably). Then you just use Nimbuzz messaging to share files for free over the data plan.

  7. which is IM…not SMS text

it essentially is Pidgin/Meebo/Trillian for the phone

it is a great app, though sometimes I find it hard to connect, gives me socket errors, but you should be clear as to what it is and what it is not

it is NOT free texting over your data plan
SMS text does not require both sender/receiver to be signed up with an acct…SMS text allows you to send a text to any cell phone w/o requiring registration

it is not accurate to claim otherwise…with a title like “Free Text Messaging…” it is misleading as texting refers to SMS text, not IM
